3rd Page of Basic Set-Up
|
Today lets tackle the generating of a form. It is on the menu towards the bottom right - 'generate customer sign up form'. Click on it and there is a page that allows you to pick and choose the questions you want your form to have. I would suggest the first name at a minimum. The eMail address is collected by default. Your form can be as simple, or as complicated as you choose. Beside the standard names, addresses etc. - you can fill in custom questions. You can also have ten demographic questions with 'pre-set' answers that you provide that they can pick from. Demographics are a fairly advanced feature and will not be used by many of you. It is most important at this time that you collect eMail addresses and names. If you are interested in the demographic features, please contact me and I will walk you through them. OK - you have picked the choices for your form. Click on the 'create form' at the bottom of that page and it will show you the form. It will also have a box that has the html code to put on your web page or in your advertisements. This code is specific to your form - It will send whatever information they fill out to your responder. It will start the message sequence. It can also send a copy of what they filled out to you. To have each sign up sent to you, go to #3 'set from eMail parameters' on your admin page and click in the yes box at the bottom of the page. I would suggest you do this, otherwise you do not know if anyone is joining your responder. Do NOT have it set to yes when loading leads - you'll get a message for each lead you import. The next important step is loading your leads. (Click Here for visual instructions) They must be in the correct format and MUST be copied from a text editor - i.e. the comma's HAVE TO BE VISIBLE. The only exception to this rule is if you are only importing email addresses only, with no further information. Most of you will get leads in a .csv format (comma separated values). If you double click on this it will open into a spreadsheet. You can use this to arrange your leads into the correct format for importing - i.e. the correct order. (Do NOT import directly from the spreadsheet or your leads and other information will be one long line and all of them will bounce when you send them. i.e. joe@Yahoo.comjoesmith21elmstreetcitystatezipphone - you get the point. While your spreadsheet is open, it is a good idea to remove any characters that databases can't use - '(apostrophes) "(quotes) \(backslashes - not forward slashes - they probably separate your time/date stamp) and #(pound signs). You do this by using 'Ctrl + F' - this opens a find window. type in the character - like an apostrophe - and use the replace button - usually on the right side of the box. Then leave the replace box empty. Now you can enter 'replace all' - usually on the right side of the box. This will save you a lot of trouble importing into any database. Save your list as a .csv file - I suggest on the desktop. Open it with a text editor and you will see joe@Yahoo.com, joe,smith,21 elm street, city, state, zip, phone. There is a list of the columns used in the spreadsheet below, underneath my signature. If you need a GREAT text editor go to www.crimsoneditor.com - it's free. It is actually one of the best editors I've found. Copy and paste your leads into the import area of the responder import page ('import leads' - about 1/2 way down on the right side of the admin page). Make sure you select Active (and enter the message number to start on) - or import them as Archived if you want to send only manual or weekly messages. I would strongly suggest not importing over 5k at a time. There are numerous reasons for this. Remember that the 1st message will automatically go out if you import the leads as Active. By the way, Active members become Archived after they have received all of the sequential messages.
The rest of the features are fairly self-explanatory (at least to me :o)
If they are as clear as mud to you, contact me and I will cover them in
detail. You may also feel free to reach me if you 'have no idea' how to
get new subscribers. I may be able to start you off on the right foot.
Once again - Play around in your site, you can't break it :o) Contact me if you get confused.
The more specific your question, the better I can answer. Write them
down!!
I look forward to hearing from you.
As Always P.S. If you don't have a leads source, we buy leads for our customers weekly. They run for $.01 and down, with volume. Leads are 8 to 12 days old and contain all pertinent subscriber data. To our mutual successes. SPREAD SHEET COLUMNS FOR
